THE PROGRAM

What is Upstate Adventure Boot Camp?

A four-week outdoor program of fitness instruction, nutritional counseling/accountability, and motivational training. You will be inspired and have fun while participating in a fantastic workout led by your Certified Adventure Fitness Trainer, Coach Pamela Altstatt.

Where are the classes held?

The Seneca women only 5:30 am camp is held in the parking lot of the Shaver Recreational Center in Seneca. The 7:00 am Clemson women only camp is held at 12 Mile Recreation Park in Clemson.  The Co-Ed camp is held at South Cove Park in Seneca.   Please go to our Calendar page and click on the camp for map and directions.

Are there advantages to exercising outside?

Definitely. Being outdoors, especially, if you have a hectic lifestyle and/or spend most of your day enclosed in an office or car, offers a natural source of rejuvenation. Exercising in the open air invigorates your body and calms your mind. You will find it to be a refreshing alternative to the sweaty crowds and high noise levels commonly found at health clubs and community gyms.

Is boot camp for me?

Do you need to be held accountable? Do you need to lose weight and body fat? Flatten abs? Do you need motivation? Do you need to shake up or jumpstart your fitness program? If you answered "YES" to any of these questions, then boot camp is for you!

Adventure Boot CampWhat if I'm not very physically fit?

NOBODY will be left behind or asked to complete more than they are capable of doing safely. Nor will anybody go home unchallenged! Women and men (age 17 or above) of all sizes, all fitness levels, and all abilities are welcome to participate. Each day will slightly increase in intensity. All exercises can be safely modified if needed. You will inspire and be inspired by others.

What types of exercises are included in the program?

Core conditioning, functional training, cardio training (including short distance running, jumping rope, etc), military training techniques, calisthenics, circuit training, pilates, sport yoga, resistance training, obstacle courses, sports drills, games, and more...all designed to help you reach your health and fitness goals!

How often will we meet?

You and your fellow campers will meet every Monday through Friday (or MWF 3-day/week program) for one (1) hour. All participants will be expected to arrive on time about 5-7 minutes earlier. Camp starts promptly at designated training time; 20 push-ups are mandated and enforced for tardy campers.

How do I sign up?

Go to the Registration Page and fill out the form. After filling out the registration form, please follow the payment instructions, we accept cash, check or you can also pay secure online paypal via credit card. Once we've received your registration information, you will receive information regarding the pre-camp evaluation and nutrition seminar.

***There is a one-time nutrition and pre-camp body fat evaluation and nutrition seminar required of all first time campers which is held the Friday prior to the start of your camp from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm .  This seminar is essential for you to understand how you will be specifically required to eat during camp in order to maximize the loss of excess fat and/or to learn how to eat in order to rapidly recover from the boot camp exercises.  The pre-camp evaluation will reveal your very specific and individual metabolism, lean muscle, excess body fat, your body mass index, and your cellular hydration levels so that we can determine your individual caloric needs for maximum results during your specific boot camp. (Camp 10 does not have a nutrition seminar or pre-camp evaluation).

"You cannot out-exercise a lousy diet." We will show you how to eat, not only for boot camp, but for a life-time of health and leanness!  There is no make-up session for this special and very important event.  Dinner will be provided.

The Pre-Camp Evaluation will also include the following:

  1. We will give you an introduction to Boot Camp and answer any questions you may have. We will also review your medical history.
  2. We will take a few simple measurements to see where you are prior to beginning camp. We don't care what the measurements show. It's strictly for a post-camp comparison. These numbers and all other information will be held in the strictest confidence.
  3. We will record your weight and measure your body fat percentage. Again, the numbers don't matter. We just want to be able to measure your improvement. Don't be surprised if you see a 3-8% reduction (or MORE) in your body fat over the four weeks!

T-shirt when you complete camp!

Adventure Boot CampWhat do I need to bring?

You need to bring an exercise mat, a pedometer, a water bottle (to keep you hydrated), beginning women – dumb bell weights (5-8 lbs.), returning veteran campers (10-20 lbs.), men - dumbbells (10-30lbs), a towel and a sense of adventure. Optional items in the winter: gloves, long johns and/or under armour, a scarf, and a hat. All items can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Target, or any sporting goods store. Note: On chilly mornings, you will want to dress in layers, as you will get warm very fast! It is also essential that you have a good pair of properly fitted cross-training or light weight trail running shoes.

What will I get out of participating?

A LOT! You will notice a dramatic improvement in your physical well-being, your overall health, and self-confidence. Camp programs include exercises designed to:

  • Tone/firm your butt, hips, thighs, and arms, strength and stamina.
  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Improve cardiovascular
  • Flatten stomach
  • Increase endurance
  • Reduce body fat, and build new friendships

You will look and feel better. You'll push your intensity levels, and you will reach a higher level of fitness than you, most likely, would not achieve on your own. In addition, you will be a part of a supportive community of women or men, with whom you'll share the same goals.

What is the cost or the investment in myself?

Each four-week boot camp has a registration fee of $299 to attend for 5-days/week. That's twenty hours of instruction! It averages out to just $14.95 per hour. Where else can you get premiere, cutting edge fitness instruction for that incredible price? Personal trainers can typically charge $60 to $150 per hour for their services - this is a great opportunity to receive motivating fitness instruction by a certified personal trainer with a Masters degree in exercise physiology, a heavy medical background, and work experience for professional sports teams for just a fraction of the cost.

Do I have to go five days a week?

Although the 5-day/week program at only $299 will give you the most visible and the best results, you may also choose a 3-days/week maintenance option to increase strength and cardiovascular health at a cost of only $205. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are the 3-days/week training designated training days. There is also a 4-day/week option for more visible results for $255. Our Co-ed team only trains 3 days/week (MWF).

Do you offer discounts?

Yes!  Check out our "Combo" packages where you train for 3 months and make 4 payments of $132 for the 3-day/week program or 4 payments of $199 for the 5 day/week program.  This includes all of your exercise programming, nutrition, pre- and post-body fat and metabolism testing and SO much more for each of the 3 camps.  The combo packages are an excellent savings and definite way to ensure you not only reach your goal, but have developed the habits to maintain your new body and fitness level for life.  **The Combo monthly payment package cannot be combined with any other discounts.

We also have a referral rewards program which offers a 10-12% discount and a Platinum Membership for even greater savings and success (25% discount + incredible membership advantages)! Referral rewards are automatically applied and discounted from any full-priced camp.

What if I can't make it to the 5:30 a.m. camp, are there other available training times?

Yes!  We have a camp at 7:00 am that meets in Clemson on the lake for the late spring/early summer months, and an evening co-ed camp that meets in Seneca at 6:00 pm. Both locations are lake side, beautiful and rejuvenating!  You must train at the location that you sign up for the entire camp session.

Will I be sore sometimes?

Many boot campers feel some soreness for the first 2-3 days. After that, it is slight to moderate. It's all part of the process of improving your physical condition!  Coach Pamela will give you lots of guidance on how to quickly eliminate or minimize this through diet and other wonderful, inexpensive ways.

What kind of people go to camp?

You'll be inspired, encouraged, and motivated by other people, just like you, who are seriously committed to improving their health and fitness levels! Some of our campers are beginners wanting to jump-start their program, and some are veteran exercisers ready for a new challenge. Most of our campers have some history of exercise, but it's not required. Others are simply, just tired of the same old boring routines at noisy and crowded gyms wanting something new & different. Don't worry! We'll adjust your workout, so it's just right for you! Remember, ALL FITNESS LEVELS ARE ACCEPTED and ENCOURAGED!

How many people are in each camp?

This number usually varies depending on the season, time of year. There is no set number. It may be anywhere from 5-45.

How soon will I see results?

Performance improvement can take place in as little as 3 days. Visual improvement can take from 2 to 4 weeks depending on your effort level and commitment. It's not uncommon to see as much as 3-8 pounds of weight loss after the first week. Remember, everyone is different! Check out our Testimonials page! Note: Every individual is different and will experience different results when participating in Upstate Adventure Boot Camp. If you want to lose weight and are under 18, pregnant, nursing, following a diet recommended by a doctor, have health problems or want to lose more than 30 pounds, see a doctor before starting Upstate Adventure Boot Camp.  (*Note:  Upstate Adventure Boot Camp is the preferred recommended weight loss method in Oconee County by several physicians who have personally witnessed significant mental, physical, health and life-changing results in their obese and morbidly obese patients who have and are being completely taken off of medications used daily for 10+ years by our diet and exercise monitored program.  UABC is a scientifically research-based physical fitness program that uses no fat burners or required dietary supplements.  We are dedicated to teaching you proven, lasting and how to maintain life-time results!)

What will I do after boot camp is over?

You will schedule your post-evaluation. You will be re-measured and re-tested. Excited about your progress and success, you will probably choose to do what many (up to 85%) of our campers do...sign up for another boot camp! Consider making it a permanent and regular part of your workout regimen. It may be just what you need to keep you motivated and your exercise routine challenging. Post-evaluations take less than 15 minutes to complete.

What if I sign up for the 3-day plan and then want to do all 20 days of the camp?

This actually happens almost every time a person starts with 3 days per week. They have so much fun, they ask to do all the days. You will simply be prorated from the point you decide to join us for all the days at a rate of $16.00 per day.

What level is the class? Will I fit in?

Every class has every level of fitness represented in it, from marathon runners to people who have never worked out before in their lives. You go at your pace in this class, with an instructor encouraging you to push yourself, while, also, reminding you to listen to your body. You'll be surprised at how well you will fit in, as long as you come with a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard.

Is there a refund policy?

If you are unable to attend camp due to circumstances out of your control, we can offer you a refund if you notify us prior to your session start date; however, we will charge a $60.00 cancellation fee. If we are notified after your session begins, we can only give you a credit on the number of remaining days of your membership towards another boot camp within 3 months of your original camp date and within the same year. This credit is nontransferable. There is no cash refund. This is not negotiable.

What if my alarm doesn't go off or I feel sick one day? Can I do a make-up class?

No. We do not have "make-up" classes. If you miss a class...you, simply, miss a class. However, except for unforeseen circumstances, we do expect and we want you to work out with us every day. That's how you get the best and quickest results! Your campmates will be there pulling for you to show up every day and you will not want to let them down.

Also...please understand that UABC is legally bound to not transfer remaining days under one person's membership contract to another person, or to allow make-up days that are not set prior to the beginning of camp.  That is a state-wide standard that UABC is mandated to adhere to with all contracted members in order to continue operating as a Physical Fitness Facility with the State of South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs. (Core 24, Gold's Gym, etc. are also bound to keep this continuity within "Physical Fitness Facilities" for our state).

Although we are an outdoor fitness program, we are licensed and categorized by our State as every other physical fitness facility within our county and the entire State of South Carolina.  We bring this to your attention because in no other physical fitness environment will all members be working out with and personally know the owner of their fitness "club."  We care, we will personally know, help, love, guide, and teach you the tools to for a life-time of success.  We will also call if you do not show up on one of your scheduled training days, because we want you to succeed like so many others have succeeded!  Please know that when you commit to a 4-week membership contract, any missed scheduled workout is a missed, no make-up, day.  Commit to this 4 weeks....and radically change the direction of your health and your body while having a fantastic time and meeting incredible new friends too!  YOU CAN DO THIS!!

What do we do if it rains, snows, or there is ice?

On heavy rain days, the Seneca morning camp will meet at its indoor location, the Tribble Center Nalley Building Gymnasium, while the Clemson and Co-Ed camp will typically meet on the Tuesday or Thursday at our normal training location immediately following any rare cancellation due to a weather advisory.  A weather banner announcement will also be posted on the front page of the Upstate Adventure Boot Camp website to alert you of any camp closings and make-up days.

Winter camp closings for Upstate Adventure Boot Camp can also be found on WSPA News Channel 7, WYCW-TV, WSPA.com and CarolinasCW.com.

Note: For any health concern, we advise that you consult a physician prior to any exercise/nutrition program!
