Hi Coach- Great news from Dr. Meyers today. Since my appointment with him in September where he countered Upstate Bootcamp to my proposal of lap band surgery. After 5 short weeks in bootcamp: My fasting glucose dropped 20 points

  • My systolic pressure dropped 20 points
  • My weight dropped 19 pounds
  • My total cholestorol dropped so much that he cut my Lipitor in half and he proposed that I can go med free in 2010!!!! I've been on 3 or 4 daily meds for over 10 years.

(2nd letter from Marie): This morning I was really excited to drop below 200 pounds but just realized that the last time I can remember weighing less than 200 was September 1992 when I weighed into a PE class in college at 195.  So now I'm at an 18 year low, but my body composition is better and I'm at a 20 year low in pants.  I started boot camp wearing a 24W and I can't wait to wear my size 10 jeans on Thanksgiving Day!!!  Woohoo! Thanks - Bootcamp Works!!!! Couldn't have believed this possible when I first walked in your home. You are a blessing to me!

Coach - I want to thank you so much for your help.  I may not show it but I am truly grateful for your enthusiasm and commitment to me and the group.  I like the way you lead by example by putting a positive influence on the group.  When I see guys jogging at Issaquena or even walking before Camp that says a lot on how you have motivated us.  The weight these guys have lost is incredible.  By now I think you know I am not an emotional person but this program really has given me a new lease on life! Coach - In addition to the obvious issues of being out of shape and overweight, it was really my struggle with Type 2 Diabetes tht caused me to sign up for your camp.  In the months prior to the camp, my diabetes had gotten much worse.  I had progressed beyond just taking pills to taking shots.  Things had gotten so bad that I was required to take 5 shots a day for a total of 288 units of insulin a day (with a mix of fast-acting and long lasting insulin).  To put into perspective just how bad that is for those who don't have this disease, when I went to pick up my medications at the local Ingles, the pharmacist told me, "Our system can't handle numbers that high." The cost of my insulin alone was over $1,000 for the month and the Ingles pharmacy billing system couldn't take that many digits.  Apparently that had never happened to them before. So, no only was I getting progressively worse off, it was taking an immediate toll on my finances. Due to a prior engagement, I was out of town for one week of Boot Camp, but even with that lost week my results have been significant. But weight weight is only a secondary battle in my journey. In my primary battle with Diabetes, my insulin dependency has been seriously reduced.  I have gone from five shots a day down to two.  I have decreased my overall insulin usage from 288 units a day down to only 50.  I no longer need the second type of med, the fast-acting insulin at all.  Looking at this purely from the financial angle, the camp paid for itself twice over just in saving on one month's supply of my medications, not to mention all the other months going forward.  From a health perspective, the changes are even greater.  Thanks for waking me up and getting me started on changing my life.

Coach - I hope all of your campers realize what an inspiration you are.  Because of you, I for the first time in my life jogged 2 miles and then walked another one at the Shaver Complex.  I kept hearing you say I could do it.  During my cool down mile I actually cried some thinking about how proud I was of myself.  I have went from a 16 to an 8. All of this because of the support and training you gave me.  I am now 159 lbs. I have not seen the 150s in 24 years (before my girls). Before today I had plans to try to do a 3k at the end of the month. Now there will be no trying, I will be doing. I am a 48 year old male.  I've always tried to remain active and fit, but had let myself go during some difficult life circumstances over the last 5 years. Consequently, I had gained about 30 pounds. I recently renewed my commitment to fitness and joined a local gym.  In January of 2010, I began working out again in an attempt to lose the extra weight I'd gained.  To my dismay, nothing I was doing was affecting my weight.  I'd almost resigned myself to the fact that I'd simply get heavier as I got older.  Then, I had a chance to do UABC's Men's Camp and I am so glad I did.  After completing two camps, I've lost over 27 lbs. while gaining muscle and I feel great! My percent body fat has reduced by well over 10% and I'm stronger than I've ever been. Not only is the excess fat gone, but I'm looking more cut than ever in my life.  I can honestly say that I'm in the best physical condition of my entire life and I'm excited about my future.  Many heartfelt thanks to Coach Pamela and the UABC staff for changing my life.  I now have the tools I need to continue to stay fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Not only in how I work out, but in how I eat, think, and live. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND UABC for women, and ESPECIALLY for men!!!

I attended the first 3 boot camps Coach had for men.  From the very beginning, it was evident that she had a passion for what she did and for those in her class.  Her program does what she says it will do.  She teaches a complete fitness program: physical, mental, and nutritional.  The program is one that is do-able for life and not just a fad diet like so many out there today.  The workouts are hard but she makes them fun and you enjoy in at the end. Pamela, though I’m not crazy about getting up at 4:15am to drive down the mountain, the camp and your dedication has been wonderful for my health. I am more alert, I carry myself better than before, and I seem to be sleeping better. Little things make it evident that my body is changing. Hey Coach! After today's killer workout I was concerned about the golf game that I had scheduled.  My arms felt like rubber the whole way to the course.  But I have to say that once I got going, my arms never bothered me and my shots had so much more power behind them.  I have noticed that since I have been training with you, besides the weight loss (60 pounds and 57 inches of fat) and better health, my golf game has improved! I have not played much this year, but when I have I am getting so much more distance making it a lot more fun to play. Now if you could only help me with my putting.  Anyway I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything you have done for me.

I had been living with chronic pain for the past 3 years after having a double mastectomy, radiation and chemotherapy for breast cancer. After the surgery it was determined that I had Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It is a cancer of the lymph system. Not breast cancer but a cancer in the breast it has been a long 3 years.  Recently I had been talking to my husband about taking my body back, which I felt so much had been taken. I needed a plan to help me gain strength, tone and help with my diet. In May 2006 I had gallbladder surgery and that is when everything changed and I began to put on weight. Since my surgery, I have put on 50 pounds. My doctors have tested me for thyroid problems and everything. But I knew that I needed a life change. When I found out about the boot camp, it was like God has answered my prayers. Well, I didn’t know what to expect from boot camp; but what I do know that it has changed my whole way of thinking about exercise and eating….I loved the everyday change up in exercise. Coach Pamela made every day exciting and different and with every day she took our routine up a notch without us even realizing it. By the end of the fourth week I began to realize that I was walking up hills with ease and not out of breath and that my inner thighs didn’t giggle anymore. I love the fact that she has a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and that I was finally exercising with the proper supervision. Pamela, I wanted to share something with you. My family and I went into the North Carolina mountains and we were in the river sliding down the rocks through a waterfall. When you went down the fall you had to pull yourself with a rope (kind of like scaling the wall). And guess what, I was able to pull myself up and walk the wall. I would have NEVER been able to do this before taking your class. When I first took your class I could hardly move my right arm, and I have NEVER done a push up boys or girls. At last testing I did 18, and do you know what I did? I cried and thanked the Lord. Thank you for showing me that I can do.

Hi Coach! Remember my daughter whom you helped in bootcamp back in November as she was readying to test for the military? Thought you might want to know that Alyssa was honored Thursday night for her appointment to the United Air Force Academy!!!  Yup!  Not only did she pass her physical, but got nominated AND then ACCEPTED!! She reports for basic training, in Colorado Springs, Co., June 22. Later that same night during the awards ceremony, the United States Marine Corp honored one young man and one young lady for their diligence in scholarly and athletic pursuits as well as their abilities in leadership.  Alyssa was that young lady!  She was stunned!  Both branches of the military that were there, presented awards to her! Thought you would like to know! I just had to let you know that I have been surrounded by “food” today. We’ve been offered bear claws, biscuits, cinnamon clusters, and chocolate bars. But I am proud to say that I ate none of it. Hey Coach! I just wanted to thank you for everything I learned during camp.  When I first started, my husband said to me "I hope you don't think I am going to eat that crap you will be asked to eat!" I politely told him he could eat whatever he wanted! I was doing this for me.  He started reading your emails and recipes and said, "You know, that coach of yours has some good ideas and good recipes."  He started cooking your recipes you were sending out and loved them.  He lost 16 lbs. eating that "crap" I was eating and it has really changed his life also!!!  :D  I can't thank you enough for what you have taught us and I am looking forward to to the next session that starts on Monday!  Thank you so much!   --- Dineen S., age 46.

 

I was a mother who made the same mistakes so many of us do - I took care of everyone else, worried about what my children ate while I grabbed a sugar-laden coffee concoction and breakfast cake on the way to work. A week later I went to the dermatologist to have a mole on my face checked. She decided to do a complete body check. When she asked me to "lift up my stomach" to see my lower abdomen I was crushed. She wasn't being rude - she needed to see my lower abdomen and my weight prevented her complete view. My sister was 9 months pregnant and looked better than me. I couldn't find clothes that fit or if they did that looked good. My doctor mentioned I needed to lose AT LEAST 25 lbs. She was being conservative. I knew it. I vowed to make a change.  A week later I saw an ad for Upstate Adventure Bootcamp in Upstate Parent Magazine. I can do that I thought. But how? My children are young I work but when they are out of school and I am out of work I don't have time. My husband works long hours - he can't watch them in the evening. I have no family in town. I'd think about it. Suddenly I saw a car with Upstate Adventure Bootcamp plastered all over it EVERYWHERE I went. I saw it twice a day sometimes more. Audrey goes to OCA. I saw it dropping her off, picking her up and sometimes in the afternoon around town. This is not a coincidence. I'll look into it!

5:30 in the morning? Outside? Why not 5:30? The girls would be asleep. My husband is home then - he is NOT an early riser. He could deal with the girls if they wake up. Years ago I used to get up at the crack of dawn to work out. I'm worth it! My girl are worth it and my husband is worth it. I am not seeing that car everywhere for nothing. God WANTS me to act. NO more excuses I am going, I am going, I AM GOING!!!!! From the first day, Pamela and Nicole were positive and encouraging. I felt like the most overweight, out of shape person on the field but I also knew I was somewhere positive and safe. The diet (while at first overwhelming) was straight-forward. It was reasonable, would require some change but I liked that it was well- rounded and sensible. I could eat! Years ago I trained with a pro body builder who put me on the Atkin's diet. It worked but never felt good and didn't seem healthy. I couldn't maintain it forever because it wasn't realistic. This low GI thing - another matter. I was hungry but not starving. Slowly my family began adopting it without too many complaints. I felt better, my husband felt better and my girls benefited from having a healthier, happier Mom.

I can't believe I have completed three bootcamps and one TRX express class. I am down from a size 14/16 to a 4!!!! As of last bootcamp, I lost almost 37 inches from my body! I am sure today that total will be over 45 inches. I ran today at a time that was 14 seconds under where I started a few weeks ago. This time is around 2 minutes under my initial time in October. My BMI is now in the healthy range (when I started it was in the "obese" range). I look better and I feel better. My oldest daughter will be four in May has never seen me in a bathing suit. She will this summer!  I cannot say enough good things about Upstate Bootcamp, Coach Pamela, and Nicole. I cannot say enough about the women I work out with or have worked out with at UABC. Having the oppurtunity to do this boot camp was a true blessing. I have a three month old daughter and my main goal was to be able to fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes. I had such a wonderful time at each boot camp that I even looked forward to getting up at 4:30 to go work out! Pamela not only guides you through the workout but she teaches you how to make healthy food choices. This is not a diet that requires you to eat salads at every meal. It's a lifestyle change that allows you to "eat smart." Pamela gives each person detailed feedback to ensure that they are on the right track; and you're constantly given praise to let you know how much she believes in you. At the end of 4 weeks I had lost 18 pounds and 14 inches! I also met my goal of fitting back into my regular clothes. Other than weight loss, one of the greatest things about this is how much you learn about fitness and nutrition. She has designed something that truly works. Just felt compelled to tell you what I love. I love that I don't feel overstuffed and fat when I eat, yet I eat enough so I'm not hungry. I love that I, who is NOT a morning person, can get up at 6am and look forward to working out. I love that when you walk up to my group, I start working harder! I love that I have energy and don't need an hour nap each day. I love that my family, though they groan about at times, is eating more whole grains and less sugar. I love that I'm considering doing this in June, although I would have to do the 5:30 Seneca time (remember, I'm NOT a morning person!) I love that at over 40, I am starting to feel like I may get my younger body back...but with more muscle tone!  Just wanted to share the good news with you. Five months ago, my nurse practitioner gave me 6 months to get my cholesterol levels within the desirable range or she was going to put me on meds for it. While my total cholesterol didn’t need to go down that much, I needed a dramatic shift in my HDL (“good” cholesterol) and LDL (“bad” cholesterol) levels. I just got my results this morning (recommended level is in parentheses for each):
Total Cholesterol (rec <200): 176
HDL (good)(rec > 50 for women):53
LDL (bad) (rec <130):99 (< 100 is OPTIMAL!)
Triglycerides (rec <150):122
Ratio TC/HDL (rec <4.4):3.3
So I did it! I increased my HDL level (good cholesterol) by about 20 points and decreased my LDL level by about 30! Thank you for coaching me to a new level of health and wellness. I’ve never felt as great as I feel now. And the proof, in this case, is definitely in the numbers!--Trish, age 34

Coach, Its hard to express how I really feel after leaving camp this a.m. It really is a life changing event for me. I cried going home, knowing that God truly has placed you in my life to be a mentor and MY COACH. I'm considering me your project. I know that I need to get fit at the age of 54 to be able to take care of my family, especially my mom and dad down the road. I thank GOD everyday for the PASSION for others that he has given you. I had to tell you that I am currently wearing a pair of jeans that are a size 12! This makes me very, very, very happy because before Boot Camp I was buying size 18!!! Just to fit my BIG BOOTIE- Thus the subject title! I was going through my winter clothes from last year changing out my closet and decided to "just try them on"! I was blown away that the first pair fit, I just thought they were sized wrong. So I tried on the second pair and third pair and fourth pair... they all fit!!! Sorry for rambling I am so excited! Thank you for not giving up on us, you are the real deal honey and we love you for it!
